United We Stand:
Helping Our Heroes

We honor the service of North Carolina National Guardsmen with financial support when they need it most.

Real world impact

Since our founding in 2004, we have helped nearly 3,000 North Carolina National Guard service members and families overcome various challenges and enjoy happy, productive lives. Whether at home, deployed in combat, or serving communities in response to a disaster, Guardsmen can turn to the SAAF-NC for a helping hand. See how we continue to make a difference in the lives of those who deserve our gratitude and support.

Testimonies of gratitude

“I express my deep appreciation to the cause and to the mission of helping those that serve, in times of need. My family and I needed help, and SAAF was there for us. Thank you to the people that granted me relief in hard times. I’m very grateful to those that serve behind the scenes. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!”

“Thank you so much for this gift. As a single parent this year, I am so thankful to be able to provide a decent Christmas for my children.” (said through tears) “I don’t even know what to say. This is not something I expected, but I am so grateful.”

Did you know?

Guardsmen do not have access to the same types of financial aid/resources as their active-duty counterparts.

Guardsmen often must take leave from their civilian jobs without pay or use vacation days while performing National Guard Duty.

Guardsmen are U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reservists who serve their state and nation when called up for state or federal service including military training.

Guardsmen can be called to active duty for combat or emergency response at any time during their enlistment.

If North Carolina National Guard soldiers and families are struggling, they can submit a simple application the SAAF-NC to receive help.

Our Mission

The North Carolina Soldiers and Airmen Assistance Fund (SAAF-NC) provides financial assistance for life-sustaining needs to North Carolina National Guard service members and families.

What we do....

We fill the financial gap for service members and families when, for example,

  • a family is struggling to pay the bills,
  • a child has a medical emergency
  • or a soldier needs counseling for depression or PTSD
